Fabrics

Sustainable fabrics are designed to reduce environmental harm. Examples include organic and recycled cotton, hemp, organic linen, Tencel, responsibly produced bamboo, and ethically sourced wool. These materials are environmentally friendly, avoiding harmful pesticides and dangerous chemicals. Choosing sustainable fabrics support eco-friendly practices and reduces environmental impact throughout the fabric’s lifecycle.

Arlene Bobb Interior Design partners with Kravet, one such company with sustainability initiatives. Kravet emphasizes the use of eco-friendly materials, recycling, responsible production, and long-lasting designs. Their products include FSC-certified wood, recycled textiles, and sustainable fibers, all produced with reduced waste and energy use.

Paints

When it comes to paint, Arlene Bobb only chooses zero VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) options. VOCs are a large group of chemicals commonly found in many paint products, and they can be harmful to both health and the environment. By opting for zero VOC paint, you eliminate the risk of VOC emissions and gain benefits for your home, community, and the planet. It’s the best and only way to go!

This den has been beautifully transformed by Arlene’s wall design using Benjamin Moore’s zero VOC paint. She decided to create the wall design pattern to match the fabric that was selected for the window draperies, creating a cohesive look throughout the room.

Woods

Sustainable interior design uses responsibly sourced wood for furniture and decor, including reclaimed wood, FSC-certified timber, and bamboo to help reduce deforestation. Durable, high-quality wooden pieces ensure longevity, creating a timeless and eco-friendly home.

Arlene loves using bamboo furniture pieces because of how strong and lightweight they are. There are beautiful grain patterns that range from light to dark. Bamboo’s natural color can complement a variety of different decor styles.

Transform your home with Stikwood’s reclaimed wood wall installations. Above is an example of Arlene’s Stikwood design to create an awe-inspiring accent wall within a dining room (along with zero VOC paint and sustainable furniture, LED lighting, and accessories, of course!).

What inspired Arlene Bobb to write this newsletter was the work of her new associate, Niya, as shown below.

We are excited to introduce Niya, our new team member who is passionate about sustainability and the environment.

Niya has created an insightful graphic on plastic waste, giving her the opportunity to compete in Regional, State, and National competitions.

As she highlights key statistics on global plastic production and waste generation, she emphasizes the low recycling rates and the significant amounts ending up in landfills or oceans. She also details the harmful effects of plastic waste on wildlife and ecosystems, offering practical solutions for reducing plastic waste. We are thrilled to have Niya on our team and look forward to the positive impact she will make. Let us know how you will contribute to the environment within your home!

Thank you for joining us in promoting a greener approach to interior design. Please share this message with friends and family who are passionate about incorporating environmental care into their design choices!
